Friends of the Abbeville Libraries announce new scholarship

The Friends of the Abbeville County Libraries have instituted a scholarship program to recognize an Abbeville County student in whose life the library plays an enriching role. The scholarship, in the amount of $250.00, will be presented to an Abbeville County senior planning to attend a college, university or technical school in the fall of 2008. The student must be an Abbeville County Library System cardholder in good standing. Applications must be postmarked by March 25.

Applications are available from high school guidance counselors and on the Abbeville County Library System website (click on the Friends tab):

The completed applications and essays will be reviewed, and the winner will be announced in April. Members of the Friends of the Library executive board will review applications. All information including essays will be considered confidential. Essays become the property of The Friends of the Abbeville County Libraries. The winner will be selected based upon academic achievement and the ability to demonstrate in essay form the value of public libraries for the community.

So, get that application and start writing! (And a big thank you to the Friends for instituting this great scholarship opportunity!)
